The Robots Are Coming

by | Jul 5, 2018

The Supply Chain Academy were delighted to collaborate with the Institute of Directors (IoD), The EEF and the University of Essex to hear from leading experts on the use of Big Data, Block Chain, AI and Robotics now and what could happen in the future…..

We’re currently undergoing and anticipating massive changes in the European and Global trading environments and in the way we do business.

Artificial intelligence, analytics and automation are revolutionising the modern workplace and challenging current business models.  The digital phenomenon is multifaceted and changes the way companies maintain and create their competitive advantage.

This sold out conference, ‘Leading in the Digital World: The Supply Chain Innovation Summit’ was held at the University of Essex.

Alex Mortimer, Director of The Supply Chain Academy and IoD Essex Ambassador, welcomed and introduced the conference. Christine Bhatt, CEO of Systematics International and IoD Essex Chair immediately threw out to the room the question of “what could business look like in the next 10 years?”

Immediate discussion broke out amongst delegates who were encouraged to share their experiences and their own projections and predictions of the lay of the land of global and local business in 2028.

The business panel that included: Charlotte Horobin, Regional Director (Midlands and East), The EEF; Tazeeb Raijwani, Head of Executive Education at Essex Business School; Christine Bhatt, CEO, Systematics International; and, Stephen Davies, Uniserve Group’s Technology Director gave these takeaways:

  • Data at various levels of detail is important for us to gain insight into the dynamics of technological innovation.
  • Practical tips on how to apply data analysis and theory to projects.
  • The need to learn more, understand more and evolve to keep up. We shouldn’t be afraid of these new innovations.
  • We need to use change champions to support colleagues with insight into these technologies.
  • There is a huge gap between the current skills of employees who are used to manually inputting data and the future skills that will require an analytical approach to the data results. We need to train our people well!

Be sure you don’t miss out on our next event, our Supply Chain Directors Dinner on 17th September and attend both our ‘Creating Competitive Advantage’ and ‘Accelerate Innovation with Supply Chain Technology’ programmes.
